Alumni Exclusive: Behind the Scenes at LSI Global Greens

Did you know that Lutheran Services in Iowa has a 9-acre farm in the heart of West Des Moines? Did you know that Amaranth Greens, Long Beans, African eggplant and other ethnic plants grow very well in Iowa? 

LSI Global Greens program returns former refugees to their farming roots and benefits the community. Join other Lead DSM alumni for a fun, informative morning at LSI’s incubator farm in West Des Moines. Tour the farm and learn how Global Greens helps immigrants and refugees grow culturally relevant food, supports new farmers as they start and grow their businesses, and diversifies the food system for everyone. 

After the tour, we’ll travel to LSI’s International Market at 19th and Carpenter in Des Moines. There you will get to see (and purchase) the vegetables from the farm and enjoy a taste of food from some of the immigrant owned businesses in the greater Des Moines area.
